U.S. Congressman. He was a successful businessman who was responsible for developing much of the economic growth in Chester County, Pennsylvania. During the War of 1812, he served in the U.S. Army as a Captain of a riflemen company. After the war, he established stores in the town of West Chester, Pennsylvania and was the town’s Chief Burgess, (1836-37). In 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress, serving until 1855. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his previous business interest until his death at age 83. U.S. Congressman James Bowen Everhart, was his son.
