U.S. Congressman. He attended the Gauses' Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced to practice law in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Entering politics, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate (1834-36), elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-sixth Congress and reelected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving (1839-43). After leaving office, he was West Chester Chief Burgess, in 1850 and practiced law until his death.
