US Congressman. Born the son of Congressman William Everhart, he graduated from Princeton College in 1842, studied law at Harvard University and was admitted to the bar in 1845. He then went to Europe and continued to study at the Universities of Berlin and Edinburgh. Returning to America in 1847, he engaged in the practice of law in West Chester, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, he served in Company B, 10th Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia and after the war was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1876-82). In 1883, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 67.
