Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Norwalk Cemetery along side his first wife, Sadie Foust.
Raleigh was born May 7, 1918 in Indianola, Iowa to Bryce and Bessie (Weston) Hutt, the third of seven children.
Raleigh married his childhood sweetheart Sadie Wanda Foust in 1940 and they were the parents of two children, Sandra and Raleigh Jr.
After Sadie's death in 1967 he remained single until he met the second love of his life, Evelyn Jarnigan which he married in 1987. That marriage lasted until her death in 2002.
Raleigh worked at Chittenden Creamery and Cronks Coal Company both in Indianola as a young lad. After moving to Des Moines he worked at Bookey Feeds, Bookey Packing Plant #2, and Wilson & Sinclair Packing House where he retired.
Raleigh enjoyed collecting antique gasoline engines.
Raleigh is survived by:
his daughter, Sandra Freestone of Adel;
his son, Raleigh (Cindy) Hutt of Des Moines;
Three grandchildren,
Paula Thompson of Des Moines,
Amanda (Aaron) Core of Indianola,
Brice Hutt of Waverly;
Three great-grandchildren,
Adam Sieberling of Des Moines,
Christopher Thompson of Adel,
Aiden Core of Indianola;
Four sisters,
Katherine Hubbel of Manassas, Virginia,
Lucille Lord of Kansas City, Missouri,
Doris Woods of Myrtle Point, Oregon and
Mary Lois Porter of El Paso, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
Bryce & Bessie Hutt,
sister, Frances Shippy
brother, Elwood Hutt.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to his family.
