Her husband married (1st) Fannie E. Rountree on November 22, 1877 when he was just 23 years old. She was the daughter of Moses Rountree & Fannie Adelaine Gay of Wilson. The marriage produced one child -- Graham Woodard (1879-1950). Fannie died sometime between 1880-1898.
Many sources have confused his two wives over the years and often report his first wife as as Fannie "Roe Ella" Rountree Woodard. Census data shows that in 1900 Fred was married just 2 years to Roe Ella, with 21 year old Graham in the household. This 2nd marriage is further confirmed in information on Congressman Woodard in the "Proceedings of the ... annual meeting of the North Carolina Bar ..., Volume 17" By North Carolina Bar Association also detail his two marriages, which states:
"Mr. Woodard first married Miss Fannie E. Rountree, the daughter of Moses Rountree, Esq., one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of the county. She died leaving one son, Graham Woodard, Esq.
On March 9, 1898, he married Mrs. R. E. Holleman, nee Robbins, of Raleigh, N. C. His home life was in harmony with his tastes and temperament, wherein all of the graces and virtues of a highly cultivated Christian family abounded. Mr. Woodard was, for many years, an active, practical member of the Methodist Church."
Roe Ella was widowed in 1915 when her husband of 17 years passed at age 61. She never remarried, and survived him 24 years, living with her stepson, Graham, and his family in Wilson. She died in 1939 at age 82.
Roe Ella Woodard's stepson, Graham, married Mary Evelyn Robbins. It is not known by this research whether she was related in any way to Roe Ella Robbins Woodard.
