Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Red Bud for Conrad F. Becker, 59, a former state treasurer and political leader who died unexpectedly Saturday night. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Dashner Funeral Home in Red Bud. Masonic services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Becker died Saturday night of an apparent heart attack at the home of his brother-in-law, William Kelly, in New Haven, Mo. Mr. Becker, a veteran Republican party official in the Red Bud area, was state treasurer from 1944 to 1946 and assistant treasurer from 1952 to 1954. He formerly headed the Randolph County Republican Central Committee, serving 14 years as chairman. He was a member of the GOP state central committee from the 25th District of Southern Illinois. Mr. Becker was named the first director of the new Illinois Department of Financial Institutions, serving in that post from 1958 to 1962. He was warden of Menard State Penitentiary from 1942 to 1944. He served as manager of the Illinois State Fair in 1947 and 1948, and was director of the Federal Housing Administration for 83 Southern Illinois counties in 1955-56. Mr. Becker was mayor of Red Bud from 1937 to 1941, and again from 1949 to 1953. He was president and general manager of the C. Becker Milling Co. of Red Bud. He was a vice president of the Central National Bank of Chicago, and a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Red Bud. Mr. Becker was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 427 in Red Bud, the Ansar Shrine in Springfield, Order of the Eastern Star No. 853 in Red Bud. He was born Nov. 12, 1905, in Red Bud, the son of Herman and Elizabeth Rabe Becker. He married Pauline Gempp June 9, 1938, in Webster Groves, Mo. Mr. Becker leaves his wife; sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Herschbach of Red Bud and Mrs. Emma Kunze of Elmhurst; and a brother-in-law, James Brigham of Carbondale.
