Confederate soldier.

Charles was a member of Co H, 25th TN Infantry, CSA

He was killed by Tinker Dave Beaty during the Civil War along with some of his relatives and died unmarried
----------
There is a historical document in the form of a Civil War diary kept by Mary Sproul of Livingston TN that states that Charles Allred was killed by men loyal to Col. Hughs of the CSA (Not by Tinker Dave Beaty). This was published in the Tennessee Historical Quarterly. Also, Charles Allred had been legally discharged from the CSA in Corinth, MS when he was not re-elected as an officer in his unit after the Battle of Shiloh. Col. Hughs was in Overton County at the time of Charles Allred's death with the motive of "Enforcing Conscription and rounding up stragglers." It is conjecture, but Charles Allred and several others killed by Hugh's men may have been suspected of being Union sympathizers, draft dodgers, or perhaps planning to join the Union army to fight against the South.
