Ray Nesset, 89, of Lake Lillian, Minn., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Minn.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20, at 2 p.m., at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian, with the Rev. Lloyd Tobiasen officiating. Lorraine Flann was the organist.

Casket bearers were Bill Sundin, Gene Sundin, Galen Sundin, Clarence Brown, Dale Olson and Lee Quernemoen.

Burial was at the Lake Lillian Community Cemetery. The K-M Funeral Home of Lake Lillian handled arrangements.

Ray was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Charles Mix County of South Dakota, the son of Henry and Tillie (Anderson) Nesset. He grew up in Iowa, where he attended school in Decorah.

He served in the United States Army from Sept. 20, 1942 until Oct. 23, 1943.

Ray was united in marriage with Myrtle Bakke July 21, 1973. Following their marriage, they moved to Lake Lillian, Minn., where he worked as a mechanic and welder with the Hanson Silo Co.

He moved to the Olivia Healthcare Center's Alzheimer Unit March 1. Ray was an avid reader. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and taking long walks in the country.

Survivors include his wife, one son, four step-sons, two step-daughters, two brothers, two sisters, 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Ray Nesset was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter Violet; and several step-grandchildren.
