JOSEPH A. BYRUM
TYNER - Joseph Alexander Byrum, 74, of the 400 block of Happy Home Road, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County, the son of the late Ellie D. and Lillian Copeland Byrum. He had formerly been a farmer, the Chowan County ABC Officer, and had retired as a deputy from the Chowan County Sheriff's Department. A member of Center Hill Baptist Church, he was a former member of the Center Hill-Cross Roads Fire Department, a former member of the Edward G. Bond Post No. 40 of the American Legion, and had served on the Board of Directors of the Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Annie Belle Byrum; two sons and their families, Steve Byrum and his wife Bridget and their daughters Karri Ann Byrum and Bobbie Jo Rae and her husband Mike and their son Hunter Steven Rae, and Randy Byrum and his wife Lisa and their daughter Brittany Lee Byrum; two sisters, Gladys Bray of Hertford and Louise Byrum of Edenton. He was predeceased by three brothers, Bertram Byrum, Melvin Byrum and E.D. Byrum.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Center Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Don English. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge. Friends may join the family at the residence or at the funeral home following the graveside portion of the service on Wednesday.
