US Senator. He was a school teacher in Kansas, before he moved to Oklahoma in 1904, where he eventually became extensively engaged in the production of oil. In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and served until 1931. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his oil industry interests and was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate at the time of his death at age 64.
