Myrtle was a school teacher in Essig, Minnesota and Morgan, Minnesota, also was a bookkeeper assistant to the county assessor.

MYRTLE BENSON-83, formerly of rural New Ulm died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Evangeliccal Lutheran Church at New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10:30 a.m.Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before services Saturday at the church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Trudie and Jeff Wenninger of rural New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Janet Benson, Douglas Benson; and Mary Benson all of New Ulm; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Nora Sauer of Lodi, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Grace Leonard of Concord ,N.C. Viola Benson of Las Vegas, Nev., and a brother-in-law, Bill Gould of Glencoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Truman Benson in 1991; and a sister, Marjorie Gould.
She was born on March 31, 1917, in New Ulm to Arthur John and Olivia (Lindemann) Blake. She attended scool in New Ulm. She received a teaching degree and taught school in rural Morgan and rural Essig. On Dec. 31, 1944, she married Truman Benson at the home of Ole and Ida Benson in Lamberton. They farmed in rural Lamberton, Hutchinson, and Redwood Falls and in 1951 they began farming in Milford Township, Brown County. In 1970 they moved to New Ulm. She then worked as an assistant to the Brown County Assessor. She was a charter member and past adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 and a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was active in the Gray Ladies, 4-H and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm where she taught Bible classes and belonged to Ladies Aid.
