Rev. James Everett Gholson, 64, a former resident of Broughton, died at 2:35 p.m., Friday. July 10, 1970 at the Wood River Hospital. He was a resident of East Alton.

Rev. Gholson was born in Broughton on Nov. 22, 1905, the son of the late Floyd and Emily (Viers) Gholson.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy September 13, 1923 and reinlisted until February 11, 1932 when he was honorably discharged.

He married Ruth Crawley Dec. 2, 1927 and they had one daughter, Emma Lou Smith of Dearborn Hts. Mich., who survives.

He married Ethel Heard, June 14, 1933, she survives. He also leaves two sons; James Edward and Eli John of Wood River, a daughter Brenda Vinyard of Rosewood Hts. East Alton, and a step-daughter; Evelyn Bredewill of Meadowbrook, a sister, Mrs. Mary Barr of McLeansboro, three half brothers, Lewis Wilson of Belleville, Lawrence Wilson of Bluford, and Joe Wilson of McLeansboro, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m, Sunday, July 12 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Interment was in the Gholson Cemetery at Broughton.
