Dorothy L. Bass, 81, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 8:30 p.m. in her residence.
She was born July 13, 1924 in Nokomis, IL, the daughter of Charles Aaron and Ethelyn June McCullers Newport. She had lived in Nokomis, Litchfield and Hillsboro.
She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School Class of 1941; Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in 1945; St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1947. She was a retired registered nurse and licensed funeral director and embalmer and a partner in Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
Dorothy was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro; Book Club; and Study Club. She was a talented artist who had won many awards for her paintings. She dried flowers which she used in the designs of dried floral arrangements.
She married Arthur E. Bass on May 9, 1944 at her parents' residence in Hillsboro.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Arthur E. Bass, Hillsboro, IL; their children: Charles Daniel Bass & wife Patricia, Horton, Michigan; Perry Newport Bass, Houston, Texas; Mary Lynn Bass, Glendale, California; Ann Wade Bass, Ashland, Oregon; and Robert Newport Bass & wife Melinda, Oak Park, IL; 4 grandchildren: Amy Bass, Dan Bass, Jr. & wife Melissa, Charles Newport Bass, and Taylor Allyn Bass; 2 step grandchildren: Kate & Emily Freeland; great granddaughter: Abby Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Col. Robert A. Newport.

Funeral Information
Visitation will be Sunday after 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro. Funeral services will be Monday, March 13, 2006 in First Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Matt Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro. Tom Dean and Todd Dean are assisting the family with arrangements.
