Andrew was 13 years old when his mother died. Eggs were 10 cents/dozen, 3# coffee was $1.00, 5# sugar was 25 cents. He graduated from PS 36 in Brooklyn on 6/30/1914, quit high school. At 14 years old he was an office boy in a travel agency at $3/week. Then he worked at Scherson & Hamel, stock brokers, at $6/week, and while he was there they had the 1st million stock day. He next worked for Pathey records processing 78 rpm records for $12/week.

When he was 17 years old, he worked for NY Telephone Co delivering supplies to workers, and as a conductor on a trolley for $.55/hour. When over 21 he worked at Kahn & Feldman silk mills as a chauffeur for Mr. Feldman at $20/week.
