US Congressman. He was elected to represent Ohio's 6th District in the US House of Representatives, and served from 1849 until his death. Born in Ellisburg, New York, Wood moved to Sandusky County, Ohio in 1833 and was active as a farmer. Apparently he never studied law, though this did not hinder him from pursuing politics in his late 20s. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1840 to 1842, and the State Senate in 1845. Wood won a special 1849 election to the Thirty-First US Congress to fill the vacancy left by the death of Rudolphus Dickinson, and served until his own death in office 11 months later. There is a cenotaph in his memory at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC.
