Jan Neil Akers, 57, of LaGrange, was born September 7, 1945, and died Sunday, February 16, 2003.
"His work involved counseling children in schools, teaching art and caring for children at Kid's World Day Care Centers. He moved on to the Kentucky Department of Personnel, where he counseled and encouraged all.
He was a man who touched others with his kindness, love and generosity. Helping was something he did with joy, expecting nothing in return.
Jan's attitude toward his battle with cancer was a source of encouragement to others and his inner strength was inspiring.
He was a man that saw the good in everyone, a man with a smile and a love-filled home. His life touched so many. We were lucky."
Jan was a member of DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Bowling Green (KY) Jaycees and the Mensa Society.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Mike Seebert, and his parents, Ted and Polly Akers. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters by marriage, Horace and Melodie Shrader, Bob Shrader and Cheryl and David Beckley, as well as nieces and nephews, David, Ami and Katie Brooks, Rob and Christie Shrader, Becca Shrader and Elliot Beckley.
