U.S. Congressman. Educated at Plattsburg Academy New York, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1837 and commenced to practice law in Mansfield, Ohio. He was prosecuting attorney of Richland County, (1839-43). In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1847. After his term, he was a justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio, (1856-71) and practiced law until his death at age 69.
