He was born in Savannah and served 20 years in the Air Force, during which time
he saw action in both the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring as a
staff sergeant in 1971. He was employed with Meco Inc. until retiring in 1991.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Gertrude M. Torley of Savannah; four sons, Neal Torley and
Michael and David Sell, all of Savannah, and John Sell of Bracketville, Texas;
five daughters, Melinda Jones of Elberton, Carol Peterits of Kernersville, N.C.,
Virginia Yastic of Bracketville, Sharon Sell of Hampton, Va., and Michelle
Santillanez of Savannah; a stepdaughter, Brenda Brown of Dayton, Ohio; a
brother, Arthur N. Torley of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a sister, Isabelle Wall of
Fernandina Beach; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Monday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel,
burial in Bonaventure Cemetery.
