Alfred E. Skaggs, 90, of Rogers, Ark., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale, Ark. He was born July 15, 1921, in Avoca, Ark., the son of Lola Alred and Asa Skaggs.

He proudly served his country during World War II, including three years in the Pacific, where he obtained an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force.

Alfred owned and operated Skaggs Used Furniture in downtown Rogers, Ark., for many years. Also, he was employed with Tucker's Appliance in Rogers as a salesman for many years.

Alfred enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and camping. He was a member of the Lazy Beaver's Camping Club for several years. He was a lifetime resident of Northwest Arkansas. He loved woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nadine Skaggs in 1991; and one brother, William "Snowball" Skaggs.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Virgie Skaggs of the home; two daughters, Vickie Estes of Rogers, Ark., Micki Keener and her husband, Larry, of Harrison, Ark.; one brother, Robert Skaggs of Rogers, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Interment will be private at Rogers Cemetery in Rogers, Ark. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date by the family.
