Isaac Beecher Passed Away Last Saturday at the Age of Ninety.
Poland - May 21 - Isaac Beecher, the oldest resident of the town of Russia, died early Saturday morning. He was born June 16, 1810, on the farm where he had always lived and where he died. Mr. Beecher was a man whose judgment was sought after and always proved the best. He was a sober, industrious man, and by his strict attention to business had accumulated quite a little wealth, which is mostly invested in real estate. He held the office of Republican supervisor several terms, and also filled several minor offices. At 13 years of age he commenced to make shingles by hand and up to two years ago he spent his odd moments in this way. He made nearly 250,000. For about ten years the deceased ran a tannery near Prospect. In his early years he used to buy cattle and drive them to the Albany market. About four miles of the old plank road between Gravesville and Utica was also built by the deceased. Mr. Beecher lost his wife Oct. 12, 1878, and since then he has lived with his only daughter, Mrs. Miles (Sarah) Moore. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. J. Hart yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The bearers were Matthew Topper, Wesley Irwin, D. C. Western and Derman Payne. Interment was made at Gravesville. The Utica Observer, Monday, May 21, 1900
