Conrad was born in Eppingen-Baden, Germany to Konrad Brinkman and Regina (Brenckmann) Brinkman. Conrad had five siblings:

Conrad married Katharina Marx in Tiffin, Ohio on 25 Sep 1866 and they had three children before she died:

Elizabeth 1872–1963

Conrad married Eliza Louise (or Louisa) Kinzer on 23 Jan 1881 in Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio. They had six children:

Charles (no middle name) 1881-1954
Frank Edward 1883-1903
Anna Marie 1884-1972
Laura Louise 1886-1945
Lena Elizabeth 1889-1981
Bertha May 1893-1935

Additionally, Conrad adopted Sarah Emma Kinzer (1878-1965) who was Louise's child before they married.

Conrad died of a stroke followed by paralysis and a heart attack in Tiffin, Ohio.
