HERBERT was born to SIDNEY and GLADYS FLOWERDAY at Lincoln General Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed away on April 23, 2011 in Bend Oregon at the age of 83 years and 5 months.

In 1932, at the age of 5 years, HERBERT and his parents, along with his twin brother, ROBERT, and older brother and sister, CECIL and MARY, migrated to Oregon in an old "Essex" car. HERB and his siblings attended school in the towns of Bridge and Eugene, Oregon. HERB and brother BOB later served in the Merchant Marines as young men.

HERB was first married to LILLIAN THOMPSON, and they had three children; DIANNE, SANDRA and MICHAEL. Later on, in 1966, he married IRENE HILLIARD.

HERB worked in the automotive industry for a time and managed Schoen's Richfield Truck Stop in Eugene, Oregon. Later on, he attended COCC and earned an associate's degree in business. HERB and IRENE attended motel management in Concord, California. Subsequently, they managed motels and were auditors for 17 years. Eventually, after retiring from the motel management career, they enjoyed traveling and sightseeing with their 5th wheel trailer. They did this for a year, but then HERB decided he had "enjoyed" about all of the retirement life-style he could handle. He decided to go back to work and was hired on as a fry cook for "Burger King" for several years.

HERB loved to dance and enjoyed the "Big Band sounds of Glen Miller."

Ultimately, for about the past five years, HERB began having numerous health problems, and his health issues became quite severe with first one thing and then another. He had taken some falls ending up with broken bones, and so on. His overall well-being started deteriorating and his health was declining at a faster rate. He became very tired of the pain and having to live on a multitude of medications. HERB was a devout Christian man, and he was ready to go "home" to Jesus.

HERB is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, IRENE FLOWERDAY; his children DIANNE (Archie) CROZIER;, New Mexico; SANDY (Bruce) KENNEDY, Bend, Oregon; MICHAEL (Diane) FLOWERDAY, Oregon; JOAN (Bob) NOSLER, Bend, Oregon; DEANNA (Thom) KAFFUN, Oregon; LYNETTE (Bill) EVANS; and CAROL (Patrick) JOERGER, Oregon.

HERB is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; twin brother, ROBERT FLOWERDAY (Beverly) of Oregon; brother-in-law ARNOLD LAWSON, of Nebraska; sister-in-law, MARY HART, of Oregon; and sister-in-law, CLARA LAWSON, of IOWA; and many nieces and nephews.
