Mr. Appelt was born on November 7, 1927 in Hallettsville, Texas, and was a resident of Alvin for 47 years. He was a test board deskman retired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 34 years, 1 month of service, and was a member of the Catholic faith.
He attended Pearsall High School, where he served as Fire Chief of the high school. Mr. Appelt entered the United States Navy on March 15, 1946, and earned the rank of Seaman First Class and then he obtained his highest rank of Yeoman Third Class.
Mr. Appelt was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lula Appelt; his sister, Melba Jo Appelt; his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Lois Appelt; son-in-law, Mark Utterback. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Utterback of Shingle Springs, California; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Dorllyn Appelt of Alvin, Texas, David and Nina Appelt of League City, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Bobbbie and Joyce Appelt of Hallettsville, Texas. Interment will be held in the Confederate Cemetery, Alvin, Texas
