Floyd Wendell Watson of Jacksonville, Florida, went to be with his Lord Friday, March 7, 2008, surrounded by his wife, daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Floyd served his country during World War II as a Radar Specialist in the Army Air Corps. He married Roselyn Melton of Ft. Lauderdale in 1950 and in 1951 he began a 37-year career with the Duval County School system. Floyd gave 34 years of service as an Industrial Arts teacher and guidance counselor to Lake Shore Junior High. He worked with United Electric & United Lighting for 31 years. Floyd enjoyed vegetable gardening, traveling, camping and volunteering. Floyd and Roselyn were faithful volunteers for 15 years with the Northeast Florida Area Salvation Army, ringing bells and working on the Mobil Food Canteen serving those in need. The couple joined the World Outreach Ministry Volunteer Staff where they managed the Food pantry for 10 years with unending energy and devotion.

Celebrating his life are his loving wife of 57 years Roselyn; daughter Arlene and son-in-law Brian Cassedy, Lodge, SC; granddaughter Emma Rose Cassedy, Asheville, NC; sisters Margaret Parkhurst, Betty Jean Gilreath, Mary and Don Holliman, Nancy and Ron Hein, Carolyn and Donell LaRue, Doris and David Wise; brothers Robert Watson, Richard and Ann Watson; sisters-in-law Betty Lois Watson, LuVada Watson and Evangeline Johnson, as well as 35 nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, sister Johnnie Lou, brothers Doyle, Jerry and Harold, and twin grandsons Spencer and Tyler Cassedy.

Floyd's memorial will be held in Lake Shore United Methodist Church. Commitment to the earth will be with full military honors at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
