She lived in Manhattan, New York, New York and was a curator American Museum of Natural History making at least one trip to England as she came back on the Lusitania on July 10, 1914.


The Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine near Old Head of Kinsale, May 7, 1915, with the loss of 1,198 lives, as she went down in 18 minutes after being hit.

Dr. Tobias G. Richardson was the Chief Medical Officer of the Army of Tennessee, and would after the war become president of the Medical Association of the United States [later the American Medical Association.] Dr. Richardson and John Bell Hood became lifelong friends with one of Hood's daughters, Ida Richardson Hood, being named after Dr. Richardson's wife.

After the death of her parents with no means of support, the ten surviving orphans were adopted by the following families:

Odile and Ida - Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas McGehee, Woodville, Mississippi

Special Note: Ida was one of the 3 sets of twins in the family. Ida and her twin sister, Odile were adopted by Mr. & Mrs. George T. McGehee,of Woodville, Mississippi after the death of their parents.
