"SAMUEL A. BURNER, physician, Marshall, is a native of Licking County, Ohio. He was born February 13, 1838. His parents were Abraham and Barbara Burner. His father was born in Shenandoah County, Va., on the 8th of October, 1799. From that place he came to Ohio when eighteen years old, and on March 21, 1819, was married to Miss Barbara Stover. In 1845, he came with his family to Illinois and settled in Crawford County, where he followed farming until his death, which occurred in 1877. Mrs Barbara Burner wa s also a native of Shenandoah County, Va., born July 22, 1798. She died i n Crawford County, Ill., April 11, 1855. The Doctor is the ninth of a family of ten children. He was educated principally in Marshall College, and read medicine under Drs. Brengle and Meserve, of Robinson, Crawford County. He attended lectures at the Rush Medical College of Chicago. He began the practice of his profession at Portersville, Ill. Afterward was located at Robinson for six years, during which time he was the regularly appointed Medical Examiner for the pension bureau, and four years of which time he served Crawford couuty as Superintendent of Schools. Since 1874, he has been practicing in Marshall. He was married in Crawford County, Ill ., May 18, 1865, to Miss Sarah Kirk, daughter of James and Keziah Kirk. She is a native of Ohio, and was born November 19, 1838, and died in Robinson, of consumption, April 2, 1871, leaving one child named Cliffe Burner , who died at the age of seven months. His present wife, Miss Drue Sutton , is a daughter of Samuel and Matilda Sutton, and was born in Fayette County, Ind., May 18, 1838. They were married April 7, 1874. They have a family of two children- Ethel L. Burner, born in Marshall August 28, 1875 ; Clarence Burner, born in Marshall March 16, 1879. Mr. Burner and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Marshall."

Dr. Samuel A. Burner died at Normal, Ill. of consumption Monday morning , June 6, 1898 aged 60 years, 3 mo. And 24 days .
He was the son of Abraham and Barbara Burner and was born in Licking Co , Ohio on Feb. 13, 1838. He came with his parents to Crawford Co, in 1845 his mother dying April 16, 1855 and his father in 1877. The doctor was the ninth of a family of ten children. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Sarah Kirk, daughter James and Keziah Kirk, their union occurring on May 18, 1865. Three children were born to them; all of whom are dead. Mrs. Burner died April 2, 1871 and on April 7, 1874
Dr. Burner was married to Miss Drue Sutton of Marshall, a sister of Hamilton Sutton, deceased, one of the most gifted young men Clark Co. has ever produced. Two children were born to them: both of whom are living: Ethel L. and Clarence. The former is a teacher in Normal schools .
Dr. Burner read medicine with Drs. Brengle & Meserve. He attended Rush Medical College and began practice in Porterville. He was afterwards located at Robinson for six years during which time he was examiner for the pension bureau. He also served as Co. Supt. Of Schools from 1869 to 1873.
