He was born on December 9, 1921 in Glenwood City, WI to Arthur & Johanna (DeSmith) Angell. Jerry graduated from New Richmond High School in 1939; he then attended the University of Minnesota. After school he then worked at a Creamery in Forest, WI. Jerry then entered the United States Navy and served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 19, 1948 in Glenwood City he married Rita Gillis. Jerry and his dad owned and operated the Milk Pail in Rice Lake from 1947 until he sold the business to his son Mark in 1991. Jerry was involved in many activities, some of them included fishing, playing Santa Claus, being an active member of the Elk's Lodge, Lions Club, Jaycees, WBA - as treasurer and umpire for baseball and fast pitch softball.
Jerry Angell is survived by his wife, Rita Angell of Rice Lake, WI; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark & Anna Angell of Rice Lake, WI; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kathlynn & Paul McGough of Rochester, MN and Mary Angell & Dennis Robbins of Brookfield, WI; foster daughter, Mary Johnson Balaban of Long Island, NY; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Ronald Flodquist of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Johanna Angell; twin sister, Geraldine McKenzie and sister, Harriet Jackelen.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 7, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI, Fr. James Powers officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner, WI on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 PM Friday, May 6, 2011 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals and for 1 hour prior to the service at the Church. There will be an Elk's Memorial at 6:30 PM and a Wake Service at 6:45 PM Friday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.
