Harold Edward Abert, 90, of Duke Street, died Tuesday in Baystate Medical Center. Edward was born in Springfield the son of Harry and Margaret Abert. He grew up in Springfield before moving to West Springfield in 1973. For over 30 years he worked as a Meter Reader for the City of Springfield's Water Department retiring in 1991. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a longtime communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church in West Springfield. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Edward leaves his wife Rita A. (Kreczko) Abert; a sister Marjorie T. Dilley of Springfield; two nieces Patricia Winchester of Springfield and Carol Parker and her husband James of East Longmeadow and a nephew Robert Dilley of Ludlow. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday at 10:00am with Liturgy in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church at 11:00am followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Suffield.
