US Congressman. After graduating from Lanier Southern Business College of Macon, Georgia in 1903, he embarked on a career as a traveling shoe salesman that lasted until 1927. During that period, he met influential people and parlayed his situation into a position as a delegate to the 1920 Democratic National Convention in Tallahassee. He was elected to represent Florida's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1927 to 1933. He lost his last bid for re-election in 1932, but took a position as a Special Commercial Agent in the United States Department of Congress from 1933 until 1940, at which time he maintained offices both in Washington, DC and at 403 West College Avenue in Tallahassee. In 1941, he became an Assistant Investigator in the General Accounting Office, a position he held until 1946. He then retired back to Florida and became a real estate speculator and developer until his death in 1971.
