MISSOULA - Elizabeth Fleming, 89, of Missoula, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, from natural causes at the Village Health Care Center.

"Liz" was born in Creston on May 20, 1921, to Sylvia (Curtis) Evjen and Marin Evjen. She lived in Kalispell until she was 10 years old. She then moved to Missoula, where she attended Franklin Grade School and Missoula County High School, graduating in 1939.

Liz had four children: Betty, Roger, Monte and Carla.

She loved to socialize as she played in volleyball and bowling leagues for many years. She also believed in public service and served on the Franklin School PTA for many years, eventually serving a term as president. She also chaired her class reunion committee in recent years.

In August 1963 she married Jack Fleming. After retirement in the '80s, they lived in Missoula and Arizona.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Jack; daughter Better Schmelebeck; sisters Bea Tarp, Eleanor King, Eva Potton and Sylvia Zorb; brothers Arthur Evjen, Homer Evjen and Walter Evjen; and stepbrother Chuck Baldwin.


Liz is survived by sons Roger (Elaine) Weisser of Las Cruces, N.M., and Monte Weisser of Kalispell; daughter Carla Finley of Missoula; brother Darrell (Marge) Evjen of Albuquerque, N.M.; three granddaughters; five grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; special people she held close to her heart, Lori Johnson and Delbert (Vonnie) Schmelebeck of Missoula; plus many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Viewing will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.
