Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p. m. in the chapel of Lincoln Memorial Park for Lt. Victor D. Brown, Jr., who was killed in action in Germany April 28, 1945.

Lieutenant Brown, born in Portland May 24, 1921, was an all-star baseball player at Franklin High School and Oregon State College. An officer in company K, 342d infantry, 86th "Black Hawk" division, he received the silver star medal and the purple heart. He was the son of Portland Fire Captain Victor D. Brown and Mrs. Brown.

Chaplain P. M. Blenkinsop will conduct the funeral services and Ross Hollywood mortuary will be in charge.

From the Oregonian, 26 May 1947:

The late Lt. Victor D. Brown, Jr., killed in action in Germany in the last big push of the war, played baseball at Oregon State before entering the service. His fraternity there, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, has hit upon an idea for a permanent memorial for him that we feel would please Vic very much. Each year at the end of the baseball season, coach and squad will select the outstanding Orange player and to him the Victor D. Brown, Jr. baseball trophy will be awarded. As it's to be a perpetual trophy, the name of each winner will be inscribed on it and the trophy itself will remain in the fraternity house. The first presentation will be made at a banquet to the baseball team in the near future.

Vic Jr. was the son of Capt. and Mrs. Victor D. Brown. Captain Brown is a member of the Portland Fire Department, a veteran of both world wars, former state chairman of the American Legion junior baseball program in the state of Oregon, and well-known former semi-pro baseball player himself. Vic as a youngster grew up in an enthusiastic baseball atmosphere, for his father at that time was informally coaching American Legion teams of Franklin players. Before going to Oregon State, Vic played for Franklin High, and on American Legion and semi-pro teams. He was an outfielder and a remarkable hitter.
