"Doris "June" Buchanan-Minturn, 77, passed away on July 4, 1998. She was born June 11, 1921, in Sedan, New Mexico, and she has lived in Anacortes for the past 25 years. She was a long-time member of the Anacortes First Baptist Church, and a long-time member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Madrona Chapter 89, Anacortes, WA.

During her early years in California, June Smothers (maiden name) was a well- known radio personality with "The Smokey Mountain Rangers". Their radio show of western music, in the style of the "Sons of the Pioneers", was heard for several years in and around Sacramento, Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley. She loved music, and was an accomplished musician, as have been her brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, John Buchanan; her grandson David Michael Newbrough, and grand-daughter Michelle Downs.

She is survived by her husband of 2 years, Mr. Raymond Minturn of Anacortes; sister Beula Futrell of Brush Prairie, Washington; brother Mark Smothers of Burlington, Washington; sons Michael Newbrough of Vista, California, and Danny Buchanan of Malibu, California, and daughter Kathy Minner of Fallon, Nevada; 4 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends who will miss her dearly."

A Memorial service is scheduled at First Baptist Church in Anacortes. A private burial will take place in Penryn, California, according to her wishes.

Evans Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
