He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1903, attended the law department of the University of Minnesota, then engaged in the publishing and printing business at Anoka, Minnesota, (1904-14). He also was municipal judge of Anoka, (1911-16), plus deputy Minnesota State auditor and land commissioner, (1916-20). He graduated from the St. Paul College of Law, was admitted to the bar but did not practice, when appointed Minnesota State auditor and land commissioner, serving, (1921-31). In 1933, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-third Congress, serving until 1935. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he practiced law, specializing in legal research, (1935-43) and was a member of the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission, 1944, until his death at age 68.
