Abisha was an 18 year old Farmer from Orrington, Maine when, on Nov. 4, 1861, he enlisted as a Corporal. He mustered to Federal active duty Dec. 11, 1861, to the 3rd Battery; 1st Light Artillery; Maine Volunteers. He was then described as standing 5' 9.5" with light hair and blue eyes. On Mar. 28, 1863, he transferred to Co. M; 1st Heavy Artillery; Maine Volunteers. His record notes he was sick at Washington, DC during 1862. His records show two discharge circumstances & dates. One shows he was discharged for disability Dec. 26, 1862. The other estimates Jun. 15, 1863.
Later in life he was awarded a Veteran's Invalid Pension, Certificate# 763.856. His widow, Susan, received the Widow's Pension after his death.
Masonic Association: On May 17, 1867, Mr. Baker associated with St. Andrew's Lodge 83, Bangor, Maine. He was raised to Master Mason Jun. 7, 1867.
