Manus Kelly was the younger brother of my paternal great-grandmother, Grace Theresa Kelly Harvey, and the son of Patrick Kelly and Barbara McLaughlin Kelly. He had been named for his maternal grandfather and uncle, both of whom were named Manus McLaughlin.

Uncle Manny worked for the railroad. The 1921 Philadelphia City Directory listed him as living at 5511 Lansdowne Avenue and his occupation as an "engineer." His death certificate gives his occupation as "retired railroad engineer."

Uncle Manny never married and at the time of his death in 1950, he was living with two of his sisters, Grace Kelly Harvey (my great-grandmother) and Elizabeth Kelly and his niece, Grace's daughter, Marie Marjorie Harvey (my great-aunt Marj) at 5509 Lansdowne Avenue.

Uncle Manny's death notice read as follows:

KELLY - Sept. 7, 1950, MANUS D. KELLY, of 5509 Lansdowne av., son of the late Patrick & Barbara (nee McLaughlin). Relatives, friends, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen & Engineers & F.O.E. No. 42 are invited to attend the funeral Mon., 8.30 A.M., from 106 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bala-Cynwyd. Solemn Requiem Mass, St. Gregory's Church, 10 A.M. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Viewing Sunday evening.
