MELVILLE C. TALBOT
Melville Clone Talbot was born Nov. 8, 1890 on his father's farm in Pottawattamie county, Iowa, near Giswold. He died at his farm home 14 miles east of Chariton on Monday, Nov. 12, 1962. His parents were Melville Clone and Clara Hearne Talbot.
When Clone was eight years of age he moved with his family to Morning Sun, where his father opened the Talbot Clothing Co., a business which still carries that name. He was graduated from the Salem, Mo. high school with top honors. After one year of teaching he entered the State University of Iowa where he studied medicine.
While in school he married Sophia Davis, Sept. 14, 1915, who at that time was an instructor in the department of Graphic and Plastic Arts at the university. After his graduation he interned at Illinois Central Hospital, Chicago.
Following this he opened an office at Mattoon, Ill., where he practiced as a physician and surgeon for 31 years. During these years his devotion to his profession and his untiring help to those who needed him endeared him to all he served. His retirement in 1951, was due to failing health. Even now, after eleven years, tributes continue to come from those who loved and trusted him.
There were no happier years for him than the eleven years following his retirement to his native state of Iowa, a period filled with happiness born of close family ties with his children and grandchildren.
The tenderness of his loving kindness and good life will serve to temper the grief felt by his wife Sophia, daughters Marianne Clara and Cynthia Hearne (Mrs. John T. Kline), and his grandchildren, Richard, Tami, Marian, John and Gary.
Dr. Talbot is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Leila T. Knop of Newport Richey, Fla. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Dr. Talbot was a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services were held at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Nov. 15, 1962. The Rev. John T. Turner officiated, with interment in the Chariton cemetery.
