Anchorage resident Bobby Alex, 68, died Jan. 11, 2011, at home of natural causes.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church, 401 Turpin St. Burial will be at Eklutna Village Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Following the burial there will be a potluck at United Methodist Church in Chugiak at 16430 Old Glenn Highway.

He was born April 27, 1942, at Eklutna, in the Territory of Alaska. He was born to Mike Alex, the last traditional chief of Eklutna, and Daria Ephim.

He graduated from East High School in 1962. He then went on to attend Alaska Methodist University, Drury College in Springfield, Mo., and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. He served in the U.S Army from 1964 until 1970 when he was honorably discharged. He then went to work for Arco on one of the platforms as an operator in Kenai. He retired from Arco in December of 1992.

Bobby learned to commercial fish at Fire Island from his father. He continued this tradition by teaching his nephews how to work the fish site through most of his adult life. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii. His other loves were singing and telling stories of his life.

He is survived by his siblings, Lois, Margret, Julia, Max, Linda, and Timothy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Mike; mother, Daria; and his siblings, Herbert, Andrew, Daniel, Catherine, Virginia and Mildred.
