Roy Mancil Perkins, 91, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Tippah County Hospital Nursing Home in Ripley. He was born Aug. 2, 1919, to Johnie Washington and Mollie Virginia Seawright perkins in Tippah County. He was a farmer and dairyman and worked for the Mississippi State Department of Transportation for 14 years. He was a longtime member of New Salem Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 50 years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at New Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Walnut with Elder Malley Davidson and Elder Dwayne DuBard officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruby Ferrell Perkins of Tiplersville; one daughter, Mary Virginia Perkins Cook Murphree (Arch) of Tiplersville; five grandchildren, Joseph "Sonny" Cook (Rachel Cook), Elizabeth Bostick (Bobby), Christy Eddington (Gerald), Tracey Murphree and Alan Murphree (Lisa); four great-grandchildren, Joel Cook, Nikki Swinford (Richard Page, fiancé), Jessica Farmer (Danny) and Amber Swinford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tazz Perkins and O.T. Perkins; four sisters, Myrtle Perkins Woods, Annie Perkins Hopkins, Lila Mae Perkins Ellis and Opal Perkins Alsup.

Pallbearers will be Mark Chamness, Kenneth Chamness, Chip McCoy, Jim Jackson, Fred Young and Bobby Manley.
