The couple and Vincent (Violet passed away while a toddler) emigrated from Wednesbury (78 Cobden Street) to Southhampton (with $270 in today's currency) and booked steerage aboard the Olympic (sister ship of the ill-fated Titanic). They arrived at Ellis Island on August 29, 1923.
The family eventually took up residence on Ridgewood Avenue in Joliet where Vincent and Frances grew up and Samuel died of stomach cancer in 1939. Jane worked at the Joliet Arsenal during World War II and married Gamiel Studer in 1946. He passed away four years afterward and Jane worked at Phillips Control before becoming a daytime babysitter for Frances and Don's younger children.
Jane became ill in the summer of 1968 and grew weaker until she died of ovarian cancer on May 6, 1971.
Grandma Jane was subjected to abuse from her daughter but made sure that Frances' children would have funds to pursue a college education. For her efforts on my behalf, I can never thank her enough.
