SYRACUSE – John Leon Pope, 78, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Heritage Care Center.

He was born November 18, 1929 to John and Ellen Griffeth Pope in Salt Lake City, UT.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was employed in battery maintenance at Hill Air Force Base.

He married Luana Scudder in 1952. She later passed away. He married Gladys Dixon on January 1, 1961 and she passed away in 1993. On September 6, 2001 he married Shirley Maxwell in Farmington, UT.

John had a great love of animals including horses and pigeons.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, Syracuse; three sons: Sidney Pope, Pamona, CA; John (Debbie) Pope, Ogden, UT; Harry (Charlene) Hill, West Valley City, UT; two daughters: Judy (Stephen) Geertsen, Smithfield, UT; Shirlee (Rick) Jellin, San Bruno, CA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
