GATES, Wyman P. Wyman P. Gates, 92, formally of East Haddam, husband of the late Helen (Canfield) Gates, died Sunday, (April 19, 2009) at Harrington Court in Colchester. He was born in Middletown the son of the late Harry and Josephine (Meehan) Gates. Prior to his retirement in 1982 he was employed with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for thirty years. A veteran of World War II he served with U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Wyman's family would like to thank the staff of Harrington Court for their professional and compassionate care. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Gates Hyatt of Glastonbury, a grandson Austin Hyatt of Glastonbury, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bess and Robert Yeager of East Haddam, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. in Mount Parnassus Cemetery on Smith Road, East Haddam. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Service Foundation PO Box 49, Annandale, VA 22003.
