Nancy Mae Adams was born May 25, 1925 in Corning, Calif., daughter of Mack Alexander and Violet Zella (Gorham) King. She passed away April 29, 2011.

Nancy grew up in California on a family-owned peach ranch in Modesto. She, her four sisters and brother helped work the ranch. One of her favorite jobs was in the apricot drying sheds.

After graduation from high school, she attended Modesto Junior College where she achieved her associate's degree in chemistry. She continued her chemistry and archeology studies for three years at Colorado A&M. Later, she studied Spanish at Colorado State University.

In California she met and married Ora Robert ("Bob") Adams. They moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where Bob was a veterinary student at Colorado A&M. After his graduation, he joined the staff at CSU Veterinary Hospital. Nancy fully supported him through a long and successful career.

The joy of Nancy's life was her family. She lovingly guided her children through their youth, teaching and supported them through many singing, piano, sewing, sports, and horse activities. She was a leader for Cub Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts and 4-H, and also a Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy and delight in her life.

Nancy filled her life with music and was an accomplished pianist. As an avid gardener, the neighbors knew her as the "Rose Lady." Her rose beds displayed all varieties of roses, which attracted neighbors and strangers alike. She gave her roses to any who asked.

She encouraged education, was a voracious reader and scrabble champion. Her keen and sharp-witted sense of humor was always intended to keep people thinking.

The family cabin she and her husband built in Wyoming in 1970 was a place of great happiness, family gatherings and quiet solitude. She eagerly awaited snow melt in the spring so she could go to the cabin. Although she enjoyed her time alone at the cabin, family and friends were always welcome. Many days were thoroughly enjoyed by all every summer. Even a bear encounter did not dampen her enthusiasm. She drove him away by banging pots together and telling him to, "Get out of here!" Most of all her love made it a welcome place for all.

Nancy was a remarkable wife, mother and friend who brought joy into the lives of many. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter. She is and will be sorely missed.

Nancy is survived by her children, Gail S. Patton (Kent), Lynne L. Adams and Robert S. Adams (Jennifer); grandchildren, Aaron K. Patton (Julie), Anita C. Dennison, D.V.M. (Clint), B. Sage Keffer, Brook J. Adams, Matthew W. Patton, Jed R. Adams, Eli S. Adams and Paige I. Hutchinson (Paul); great grandchildren; Cole and Carter Patton, Calla and Kora Dennison, Wyatt and Penelope Adams; sisters, Mille Russo, Kathleen Sheldon, Barbara Maynard and Jeanette Zes, sister-in law, Eleanor King, all of California; and dear extended family, Susan Ogburn Oyler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Robert Adams, D.V.M., her parents and brother, Mack Alexander King, Jr.
