Dwight Humeston was born on Tuesday, February 25, 1908, in Albia, IA, the son of Dwight S. and Mary (Whited) Humeston.

On Tuesday, September 30, 1930, Dwight married Mary Bates at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose.

Dwight lived his entire life in the Albia, IA, area. He graduated from Albia HS and attended Drake University for 2 years. He then graduated from Embalming School at the University of Minnesota.

He and Mary owned and operated the Humeston Funeral Home and the Humeston Furniture Store in Albia for 50 years until their retirement. Dwight succeeded his father in both businesses.

Dwight was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a trustee of the parish for 25 years. He was also a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. He received the Apostolic Blessing for his work in the Catholic Church.

He was also a member of the Albia Public Library Board of Trustees, the Rotary Club of Albia, and the Iowa and National Funeral Directors Associations.

Dwight's hobbies included clock collecting and repair, gun collecting, hunting, and reading. He also collected old furniture and carnival glass.

Dwight and Mary had 1 son and 3 daughters: Peggy, Tony, Sandra, and Helen.

Dwight, 71 years old, died of metastasized prostate cancer on Thursday, October 11, 1979, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA. A wake was held at the Humeston Funeral Home on October 12. Following a 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13 Funeral Mass at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia concelebrated by Fathers Raymond Schwank, Eugene Hoenig, Charles Gannon, and S. A. Conrad, he was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Albia.
