Walter B. Gelatt was born in Elk County, Pennsylvania, September 19, 1840 and died at Iowa City, July 03, 1931. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was two years of age. They located in Henry County where his father died five years later and three weeks following his death, an only sister died. The mother lived to the age of 78 and died in 1895.

For a number of years in his youth Mr. Gelatt made his home in the Brockway neighborhood in Muscatine county.

He was united in marriage to Miss Sophie Ann Todd of Columbus Junction in 1871. To this union two children were born. W. H. Gelatt of Des Moines and Nettie, now Mrs. L.L. Flemming of Davenport. Mrs. Gelatt died in 1881. Twelve years later in 1893 Mr. Gelatt was united in marriage to Miss Hattie I. Bliven and to them was born one daughter, Emma, of Iowa City. Those who survive are his wife, Mrs. W.B. Gelatt and one daughter, Emma of Iowa City, son W.H. Gelatt of Des Moines and daughter Mrs. L.L. Flemming of Davenport. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
