U.S. Senator. Born the son of U.S. Senator Garret Dorset Wall, he graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1838, studied law, admitted to the bar in 1841 and commenced to practice law in Trenton, New Jersey. He served as commissioner in bankruptcy after moving to Burlington, New Jersey, in 1847 and was Mayor of Burlington in 1850. In January 1863, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John R. Thompson, serving until March 1863. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in literary pursuits until his death. He was originally interred at Saint Mary's Episcopal Churchyard in Burlington, New Jersey. Shortly before his wife died, she requested his remains be removed to Elizabeth and buried in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery.
