Our mom, our granny – a lady of giving spirit, simple grace, quiet dignity, and colorful wit. She was loved by many, and will be greatly missed.

A lover of all things French, antique and those forgotten by the modern world, she founded the first Flea Market in Louisville in 1961 at the corner of Story and Ohio (now Frankfort Avenue). Owned and operated several shops, the last for over 30 years, Old Market Square Antiques.

Known to family and friends as Mrs. M, Aunt Koochie, Cobina, Nonie, Charlotte, Maw, Madame, Annie, Grans and Granny.

They've Know Me As…
by Elinor Maloney

Birth Notice, "A girl"

Baptismal name, "Elinor Elizabeth Fromang."

Father called me "Snobie."

Virginia called me "sister."

Granny and Aunty called Virginia and me "Nonie and Nina."

Mrs. Brauner, deaf old lady in Frankfort, called me "Eleeanor."

Austin started calling me "Kooch" but when his visiting cousin Leo Cutshall courted me a little, the potentialilty of being "Koochie Cutshall" was too much.

I was mostly "Nonie" growing up.

At Reynolds Metals, Slay Givens, who was kind of a boss, called me "Baby Doll" with no inflection or intention whatsoever, just he couldn't think of my name.

At my shop at 805 East Market, I've been "Mrs. M" and "Queen."

Nephew Charles Smith started calling me "Rich Eccentric Aunt Koochie" or sometimes "REAK."

Behrle Hubbuch just called me "Kooch."

So now I'm "Aunt Koochie" to Mary Ann Smith Ronconi and family, Linda Smith Hubbuch and family, Barbara Smith and her girls, and to their friend Rick Grimes "Ms. Aunt Koochie."

Lynn Brumleve always called me "Charlotte Ann," and not as often "Ironhead."

May called me "El."

My family calls me "mom" "maw" "granny" and from grandson Michael, "madame" and I to him, "sire."

Inevitably I'll be called the "Late Mrs. Maloney."
