Carol Sue Rains Anson, 65 year old Checotah resident passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011 in Abilene, Texas. Carol was born on Wednesday, June 27, 1945 in Yuba City, California to Henry and Madeline (Carroll) Rains. She was born the fifth of six children. From the moment she was born, Carol could light up a room when she entered, and she never met a stranger. She loved to shop, travel, and cook. Carol especially loved to talk and joke with anyone she met, but her greatest love was being Mom, MiMi, and Aunt, to not only her own children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, but those of all her friends and family. She loved her community, serving as the first director of the Checotah Main Street program, former director of the Checotah Chamber of Commerce. Carol was instrumental in the development in Checotah's Pocket Park, and was employed by Self-help housing and helped many families attain homes. She was the personal assistant to James C. Leake, former owner of Channel 8 and the Oil Ambassador to Iran. Carol's generous and loving spirit will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ryan Anson on Tuesday, February 23, 2010; two brothers, Roy Rains, Karl Rains; one sister, Nancy Rains Payne. Carol is lovingly survived by her husband, Patt of the home; one son, Jeff Harrison and wife Ellen of Houston, Texas; two stepchildren, Greg Anson and wife Kim of Dallas, Texas, Adoris Craig and husband Gary of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; one sister, Hazel Dawson of Muskogee, Oklahoma; one brother, Chick Rains of Washington State; three grand children, Van Harrison, Max Harrison, Brooklyn Anson; special nieces and nephews, Kathy, David, Melissa, Sarah, Amber, Ashley, Amy, Adam, and a host of very special friends.
