This is my beloved Aunt Viola although she preferred to be called Mary, we always knew her as Aunt Viola. She was in a nursing home for about 15 yrs. in Covington. She had Parkinson's which appears to run in our Hill family in old age, her brother Othel and sister Elsie also had Parkinson's. The Dr.'s said it was what crippled her feet so she was in a wheelchair but she managed to get around pretty good. She lived to be age 86 and that's the oldest that I know of anyone living in our Hill or Mays family tree.
I used to go by and see her each time I went to Memphis and I saw her about a month before she died. I knew she was getting weaker but she still had some of her spunk.
I have wonderful memories of Aunt Viola when I was a child. My sister Betty and I went to spend a few days with her and Uncle Will in the summer when we were young and Aunt Viola made me and Betty some cute tops out of flower sack material. I absolutely loved that top and wore it till I wore it out. We had the most wonderful time playing with her son Larry and daughter Linda. They were her only children by her first marriage to Will Pilkington.
Aunt Viola was married 2nd to Charlie Gray but had no children with him. I found where Charlie is buried and linked him with Aunt Viola.
I hope to see you again Aunt Viola one day thru Jesus for your another one that if anyone goes to Heaven you too would have to be one of them. You were one of the kindest and most loving people to me and my siblings and I will never forget you. I love and miss you so much, your niece, Kay.
