U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1807, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1809 and commenced to practice law in Troy, New York. In 1817, he was elected as a Federalist to the Fifteenth Congress, serving until 1819. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in the real-estate business. He also later was a regent of New York State University, (1830-34) and judge of the circuit court of the third circuit, (1838-44). He was a trustee of Union College, from 1833, until his death at age 64.
