Katherine S. Demyan, 69, of Rifton, N.Y., formerly of Painted Post, passed away Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at The Kingston Hospital in Kingston, NY. She was born April 4, 1942 in Woodhull to the late Elwyn and Mary (VanOrsdale) Hotaling. She married George R.Demyan on February 2nd, 1963 and they were together until George’s passing on March 4th, 1998. Kathy graduated from Woodhull High School in 1959 and entered the workforce immediately following high school. She worked at Corning Hospital for almost 48 years, starting as an aide and continuing her education to advance to an LPN and finally a Registered Nurse. She worked as an RN until her retirement in 2007. She loved her job, and couldn’t say enough about the people that she worked with. Kathy was an animal lover. She had many animals over the course of her life, but had a great fondness for cats and horses. She loved to travel and see the world. She enjoyed cruises and traveling across the country on the train. She loved going to the casino and could really get into a good game of Uno. Katherineis survived by her daughters; Kristin Demyan of Rifton and MollyDemyan (Frank DeMilio) of Camp Verde, AZ, siblings, Shirley Brown (Russell) ofMillerton, PA, Carolyn O’Dell (Richard) of Corning, NY, SheilaRose of Corning, NY, two special sister in-laws, Nancy Lewek (Stan) of Corning, NY, and Joan Shaw (Allen) of Tuscon, AZ, aswell as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brothers James and Al “Skip” Hotaling, as well as nephew Rick O’Dell.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 16th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W Pulteney St. in Corning, where services will follow at 7:00pm.
